Leonids Meteor Storm: Sunday, November 18, 2001.

4:00 AM to 6:00 AM EST

All photos taken from my balcony in Wappingers Falls, NY...about 70 miles due north of NYC. View is to the SW. The unavoidable sky glow is from the lights of Newburgh, NY, across the Hudson river from my location. Otherwise, conditions were crystal clear and cold (21 oF).

Shots were taken on Kodak MAX400, with a 24mm lens at f3.3, using exposures varying from 30 to 90 sec. Camera is a Nikon N70 with electronic cable release.

These photos were taken between 4:30 am and 5:30 am Eastern time. During this period, I'm estimating that meteor rates were around 800-1000 per hour. Most were very faint, but a few were bright enough to leave visible trails that lingered for several seconds.
